Prayer, Joys and Concerns

FOR THOSE WITH LONG TERM ILLNESS:  Randy, Jim & Elaine, Lori, Louise, Richard, Jim, David, Darrell, Donald, Brenda, Roger, May, Jeannie, Kay, and Margaret.

HOSPITALIZED THIS WEEK:  Byron Draeger at St. Elizabeth in Appleton.  Jim Hoeft at Kindred Hospital in Greenfield.

SPECIAL REQUESTS: For Nancy Callies, wife of Rev. Arthur Callies, Hope Fond du Lac, who is recovering from surgery and facing numerous health issues.  A prayer of thanksgiving and request for continued healing for Lydia. For Bill, Bob, Bonnie, Lauri, Micki, Owen, Brandon, Rex  and Wayne friends and relatives of members, who are suffering with cancer.   For those who have lost their jobs or are suffering through financial hardships.  For Doug Draeger, grandson of Byron and Marilyn Draeger, serving in Afghanistan.  For those who continue to suffer the effects of Hurricane Katrina and for those volunteers who continue to rebuild, especially RAI Ministries.

 

 

ALTAR FLOWERS

: The flowers on the altar this week are given to the glory of God by the Ladies Aid and the Dorcas Circle.

GUEST SPEAKER:  Our guest speaker this Sunday is Rev. Bryan O’Connor.  Rev. O’Connor is representing Camp LuWiSoMo.  A collection will be taken at the door following each service to support Camp LuWiSoMo.

MARRIAGE: Victor Mitchell and Bonnie Wenborg were united in marriage on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Paine Art Center Gardens.  May God bless their marriage.  Blessed are the husband and wife who humbly dedicate their lives and their home to Christ and practice His teachings.

COMPASSION SUNDAY:  If you missed the opportunity to become a Compassion International sponsor letting God use you in a special way to change the world of a child in need, it is not too late. Sponsor packets and information will be available to you for the next two weeks at the Compassion International table in the narthex. A sponsorship provides educational, social and health benefits through a local church in the community where the child lives.  You can develop a relationship with your child through letter writing sharing your encouragement, love, prayers and faith with them. 

BAKESALE FUND RAISER:  This Sunday, September 27 Trinity Choir members are having a bake sale.  Delicious baked goods will be available between services and after the late service.  Proceeds from the bake sale will be used to purchase new choir robes.  Proceeds from the sale will be matched by Thrivent. 

RUMMAGE SALE:  The week of the Dorcas Circle Rummage Sale has arrived!  Sale dates are October 1st and 2nd from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 3rd from 9:00 until noon.  Drop off days are September 28th, 29th and 30th from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the lower level Fellowship Hall.  Your merchandise, your presence at the sale, and your prayers for a successful sale will be all we need - and we know it will happen!

LAST CHANCE FOR THE VHS AND CASSETTE TAPE GIVEAWAY:  The Board of Adult Education is eliminating all the VHS and cassette tapes from our church library.  Stop by the library area and freely take those of interest to you.  The remainder, if any, will be included in the October Dorcas Circle rummage sale.

DON’T MISS!!  Don’t miss the opportunity to attend the 2009 Progressive Dinner at Trinity School on Tuesday, September 29.  Look for details on the insert in this week’s bulletin.  Come join the fun.  While you are there, be sure to visit the Book Fair.  Lots of great books will be on sale. INTRODUCING SCRIP ON HAND OR SIMPLY “SOH”:  Because our program is continuing to grow, we are now able to offer some cards for immediate purchase.  Some of those cards include; gas cards such as Kwik Trip and Exxon/Mobil, grocery store cards such as Festival and Piggly Wiggly.  Some of the other cards that we will have on hand are Walmart and Walgreens. Please go to the Scrip Station at church for a full listing or ask for the SOH form at the school office. Please remember that this is a MAJOR fundraising program that benefits the school, yourselves, and also numerous local and national vendors.  The vendors sell us their gift cards and donate a portion of it back to the school.  You then, purchase the gift cards for the cost of the card.  There is absolutely no extra expense to you!

NEW AT SCRIP:  Dr. Benzie’s Pizza and Culvers has been added to our Scrip program.  Each card will be $10.00 and each business is donating 8% back to Trinity School.  These cards will also be kept on hand at the school office after 10:00 AM and before and after the Sunday services at church.

NEWS FROM THE VICAR:  Vicar Whaley sends greetings from the seminary.  He is working in the Information Technology department and is very busy, but happy to be back at the seminary.  Several people have asked for his contact information.  His new address is Kyle Whaley, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, MO 63105.  He can also be reached through the school welcome center at 314-505-7000.  Just ask for him and they will transfer you to his phone.  His new email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. TRINITY TOURS:  It is time to be thinking about The Fireside Christmas.  The production this year is “Here Is Love” based on one of the most beloved Christmas movies “Miracle on 34th Street”, December 5, 2009. Reservations are filling up fast but there are still a few seats available.  Come and join us for this heartwarming program at The Fireside.  “Those Fabulous 50’s and 60’s” will be coming to the Fireside on February 6, 2010.  Be sure to get your reservations in for this “fabulous” show.  Call Janet at 233-0263 to reserve your seats for these outstanding shows. 

VOLLEYBALL!!  Trinity School PTL would like to invite congregation members to come and root for the “home team” . . . volleyball team, that is. Our next home games are Thursday, October 12th  at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.  Please feel welcome to come support the girls by cheering them on.  It’s a time for fellowship and fun and there is food available in our concessions area!  Call Angie Simon with question or for more ideas on how to support the teams.  We hope to see you at the games!!  

HELP IS AVAILABLE:   Just a reminder that the food pantry is available to members who are in need.  It is there for you to use when you need it.  Please do not hesitate to call if you need help with food.  You may contact the church office or Donna Butzlaff at 426-1682.

ATTENTION NEW MEMBERS:  Several new members have joined over the last few months and we need to have your picture for our “New Member” board.  If you have not had your picture taken, we will have someone available between services on October 4 and 11.  Please meet with Jim Witzke by the Welcome Center.  If you have questions, please contact the church office.

PRAYER PARTNERS: For the past several years, congregation members have participated in the Prayer Partner Program.  Each year many faithful people at Trinity take the time to “Adopt” a prayer student in sixth through eighth grade.  Prayer partners are not only asked to pray for their student on a regular basis, but also to send a card or note to their student each month.  We are in need of 7 more prayer partners this year.  If you are interested in becoming a prayer partner, please fill out the form provided on the table across from the Welcome Center.  If you had a student last year in the sixth or seventh grade and would like to continue with that student until they are confirmed or if you wish to leave the program, please indicate that on one of the prayer partner forms.  Thank you for prayerfully considering being part of the Prayer Partner Program.

ME, A PASTOR OR A DEACONESS?  If you have found yourself asking this question, now is the time to do something about it!  Rev. Steve Wagner of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, is going to be at Sheboygan Lutheran High School, 3323 University Drive from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1121 Georgia Avenue, Sheboygan from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2nd.   Come and explore the possibilities!  Men of all ages are invited as are their wives, fiancées, and parents.  Women interested in the deaconess program are also invited, along with their families.  Conferences are individual and informal.  Reservations are not required; however, if you are able please email Rev. LIVING WELL AFTER 50:  “All Grown Up and Staying Young” will be presented on Saturday, October 3 at Sunnyview Expo Center from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.  Registration and Exhibits from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.  Informational sessions beginning at 8:30 a.m.  4 Bits of Fun Barbershop Quartet from 11:00 – 11:30.  For more information call 232-3000. 

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP: You are cordially invited to attend the Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting Thursday, October 1 from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. at Bethel Home Chapel of Faith and Life. Join Jenni Zelinski and Kim Bauer, Alzheimer’s Support Group facilitators, and others caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory impairment for an hour of education, sharing, and support in a confidential setting.  The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets the first Thursday of every month. 

TRINITY DVD MINISTRY:  Unable to attend church due to illness or for other good reason?  Trinity worship services are televised weekly on Oshkosh Cable Channel 2.  Broadcasts are Monday at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 3:00 p.m. 

TRINITY CARE TEAM MINISTRY:  Are you homebound and unable to get to the grocery store or doctor appointments?  Have you recently been in the hospital and need some temporary help with meals or other tasks?  Do you have some household needs that you are unable to handle right now?  The Care Team Ministry is here to help you.  If you need our help, please don’t hesitate to call the church office at 235-7440 or Donna Butzlaff at 426-1682.  We are happy to help.

HELPING HANDS FUND:    A fund has been established for Trinity members who are in need of immediate emergency assistance.  The Stewardship board has established guidelines for dispersal. A donation has been received to open the fund, but the need will continue.  If you wish to contribute to this fund, donations should be specified to the AHelping Hands Fund.@  Anyone who requires assistance may contact Donna Butzlaff at 426-1682 or the church office.

FOSTER GRANDPARENTS NEEDED:  Winnebago Mental Health Institute is looking for volunteers, age 60 and older to become a positive influence in the lives of children and youth in their community through the Foster Grandparent Program.  Volunteers serve children in the greater Oshkosh area and focus on tutoring and mentoring children and adolescents to help them succeed in life and overcome challenges they may face.  Volunteers must be physically able and in good health, able to volunteer 15 – 40 hours a week, able to work with children who have educational and emotional needs, meet income eligibility and pass a background check, and are willing to accept supervision and direction.  For more information check with the church office or contact Marilyn Clarenbach at 235-4910, ext. 2483. 

CAN YOU HELP?  Affinity Nurses Hospice is looking for volunteers. NURSERY USE:  The nursery is available for children under three years of age.  The Worship Service is broadcast through a speaker in the nursery.  If your child/children use the nursery, please make sure that all toys are put back in their proper places.  On several occasions recently the toys in the nursery were left all over the floor.  For the comfort and safety of other nursery users, please help your child put things back where they belong.   Thank you for your help!  

COME BACK TO BASIC:   BASIC Books and Café invites you to come in and see what=s new.  The bookstore is filled with wonderful Christian books and gift items.  Don=t forget to make a stop at the Café. You can enjoy your favorite coffees and teas or try one of their great salads, wraps or soups.  They even have breakfast items. The Café offers live music each Saturday evening.  Stop in for that perfect gift or just sit and relax in a Christian atmosphere.  We=ll be waiting for you!   

 
COME BACK TO BASIC

BASIC Books is partnering with local churches to provide Christ-honoring materials that will edify, educate, evangelize, and equip church members.  There are many ways that our church members can benefit from working with BASIC. 

·         BASIC facilities are available for church sponsored events.  This includes Bible Studies, small group meetings, use of the parking lot and Café which has a stage and sound system.

·         Bible Study and Sunday School materials are available at a discounted price when purchased through the church.

·         Christian gift items, CD’s, DVD’s and items for children are available.  Visit a whole area designated for Kids.

·         BASIC will advertise any church related event. 

·         BASIC will provide us with discount coupons to for the bookstore or the Café.

·         BASIC Café has ground and whole bean coffee.  Keep them in mind when you purchase coffee for your next event.

·         BASIC Café offers free family friendly entertainment each Saturday.

When you shop at BASIC you are investing in God’s work.  BASIC communicates an important message to the community – a common purpose as a body of believers to share the Gospel with our friends and neighbors and those who are unchurched.
